Privacy Policy
Last updated: February 24, 2026
PDFopen follows a local-first model for document workflows. This policy explains what data may be processed, how it is used, and what choices you have.
1. Scope
This Privacy Policy applies to PDFopen websites, applications, and related services (collectively, the "Service").
2. Information We Process
Depending on your use of the Service, we may process:
- Files and content you choose: PDFs, images, and office documents selected by you for conversion, editing, or export.
- Technical data: basic device/browser data, error logs, and performance telemetry needed for reliability and security.
- Communication data: information you provide when contacting support or submitting legal requests.
3. Local-First Processing and Content Commitment
PDFopen is designed so most document processing runs in your browser. Where backend processing is enabled by operators, files are sent only to complete your requested action.
We do not claim ownership of your files. We do not intentionally scrape, copy, or republish third-party content from your documents. We do not sell your document contents.
4. How We Use Information
We use information to:
- Provide requested document tools (convert, edit, merge, split, and export).
- Maintain service security, prevent abuse, and troubleshoot issues.
- Improve product performance and reliability.
- Comply with legal obligations and valid legal requests.
5. Cookies and Local Storage
PDFopen may use browser storage for preferences such as theme, workspace settings, and export defaults. These settings can usually be cleared through browser controls.
6. Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell personal information. We may disclose limited data only when needed to:
- Operate core infrastructure and service providers under confidentiality terms.
- Comply with law, court orders, or lawful government requests.
- Protect the rights, security, and integrity of users, operators, or the Service.
7. Data Retention
We retain data only as long as reasonably necessary for operational, legal, and security purposes. If backend processing is used, operators should minimize retention and remove temporary files promptly.
8. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards. No method of transmission or storage is fully secure, and absolute security cannot be guaranteed.
9. Your Rights
Depending on your location (including certain U.S. states), you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, or information about processing of your personal data, subject to legal exceptions.
To submit a privacy request, email aniket@pdfopen.live with subject "Privacy Request".
10. Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13 (or higher age where required by local law). If you believe a child provided personal information, contact us and we will review and take appropriate action.
11. Cross-Border Processing
If you access the Service from outside the operator's country, your information may be processed in other jurisdictions with different data protection laws.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date reflects the latest version.
